Run In Such A Way

Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. (1 Corinthians 9:24-26)

This is a message of discipline, training, or practicing. This is true for spiritual as well as physical training. It is also true in academic training (such as studying, doing review questions, and doing homework) and in working at your job.

"Run in such a way to get the prize." Intend and aim to get the prize. (Visualize and pray for it.) Do whatever it takes to obtain the prize - whatever training, running drills (in sports), immersing in ice water (sports), review questions (academics), summarization (academics), and other types of studying (academics and work). (Do whatever it takes, but within moral and ethical boundaries.)

Do not be the boxer who beat the air without hitting the opponent. If you are merely going through the motion without intention of getting the prize, you are like the boxer beating the air. Do not be like the runner just going through the motion (only because the coach told him to) and never winning any races.
